■Message from Hikari Kogyo Co., Ltd.

In today's world where there is a lot of uncertainty, having emergency food on hand is a way to have peace of mind.

Every year, earthquakes, typhoons and other disasters occur all over the country, and disasters are no longer something that is far away for anyone. However, we believe that emergency food stockpiles throughout Japan are still insufficient, and we believe that it is socially meaningful to encourage people who are not particularly interested in emergency food, or who are not targeted by major emergency food manufacturers, to have at least one emergency food item. With this in mind, we have collaborated for the first time on emergency food items with "Fist of the North Star," which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. We have launched a project on Makuake for this product in the hopes of stimulating interest in emergency food through "Fist of the North Star," and "providing an opportunity for people to have at least one emergency food item."

What is Kurogane Hard Bread?

"Kurogane" means iron, and this candy was created in the Taisho era at the Government Yawata Steel Works (currently the Kyushu Steel Works of Nippon Steel Corporation, Yawata District). It was developed by the Government Yawata Steel Works using carefully selected ingredients and a unique manufacturing method for the purpose of providing nutrition to employees, and by reducing the amount of moisture as much as possible, it became as hard as iron so that it could be mass-produced and stored for a long time. It is currently manufactured by Spina Co., Ltd. (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture). The end-of-the-century preserved food "Hokuto no Katachi - Kurogane Hard Bread Cocoa Flavor" uses the "Kurogane Hard Bread Stick Type Cocoa Flavor," a sister product of this "Kurogane Hard Bread," which is hard but has a gentle taste. In addition, Kurogane Hard Bread was selected as a certified "food" brand from among Kitakyushu's specialty products by the Kitakyushu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in March 2008, and has been a hot topic in many media outlets, including television, newspapers, and magazines.

Because it is the hardest, it keeps you full for a long time.

The filling is very hard, so by chewing it slowly and thoroughly, you can make a filling emergency food. The mild cocoa flavor also means you won't get tired of eating it, so you can keep eating it.
