The French live-action version of City Hunter "NICKY LARSON", which was released in France on February 6th of this year and became a social phenomenon with 1.68 million viewers, has arrived in Japan!
The Japanese release title is ``City Hunter THE MOVIE History's Best Mission''. The subtitle is a double meaning between ``Perfume = ``Ko'' Water'', which is an important key to this story, and ``Ko'' Makimura, the partner of the main character, Ryo Saeba. Combining this with the word "best", we decided to create the mission with the most incense in history.
Along with the release in Japan in November, the Japanese version teaser visual and special video have been announced.

How the live-action version was produced in France
The original comic and anime were huge hits in Japan in the 1980s, and later became popular in Europe. In France, he gained popularity when he was broadcast under the title ``NICKY LARSON'' in the TV program ``Club Dorothée'' (1987-97).
Philippe Lachaud, who directed and starred in the French live-action version, was born in 1980 and is 38 years old. He says he fell in love with ``City Hunter'' after watching this program when he was in elementary school. Eventually, Mr. Rasho planned to make ``City Hunter'' into a movie himself, and sent the proposal and plot along with a handwritten letter to Hojo's office. Hojo liked the plot, and after discussing it with Mr. Rasho, who came to Japan with the script, it was decided that it would be made into a film.
Hojo participated in a pre-release talk event at Comic Con (a technology and pop culture event) held in Paris. He was one of the first to watch it and highly praised it, saying, "This is City Hunter!" When the film was released in France, it attracted over 1 million viewers within two weeks.
The reason why the French live-action version attracted 1.68 million viewers is because it is faithful to the original work and has a perfect balance of comedy and action. Mr. Lachaud is a new generation creator in the French entertainment world, and has a track record of making the comedy film “Hahahah to the Ends of the World” (2016) a huge hit in France. ``First of all, I wanted to be as faithful as possible to the original work. On top of that, I tried to create a modern action comedy that blended the worldview of ``City Hunter'' with my own humor.''
Words from Philippe Lachaud, director and star of the French live-action version
"I went to see Tsukasa Hojo with the script that I had spent 18 months writing, and 48 hours later I got the OK. Hojo said, 'The script is faithful to the original work, and I wanted to include this story in the original work. It was the best compliment, and I felt like I was in heaven! When I think about that moment, I can't believe that the day will come so soon that people in Japan will be able to see it! Be gentle!"
Words of Tsukasa Hojo
``This year (2019) started with the release of the theatrical anime version of ``City Hunter'' and ended with the release of the French version in Japan, making it truly the ``City Hunter'' year.I am very happy.Director This is an exciting, heart-throbbing action-comedy movie filled with love. I highly recommend everyone who supports ``City Hunter'' to watch it.''
