The Kumamoto International Manga Festival, which supports Kumamoto through manga, is being held at Tsuruya Department Store in Kumamoto Prefecture from September 12th (Wed) to September 17th (Mon, holiday).
Last year's Kumamoto International Manga Festival was well received, but rather than making it a one-off revival event, we believe that our mission is to hold it twice or three times, to develop it into a "holy land of manga," a cultural center that connects Kumamoto with the world, and to spread its appeal. We have also collaborated with the international manga award Silent Manga Audition, and for the second time, we are accepting submissions under the theme "Wasamon" (Kumamoto dialect for "love of new things"). A total of 726 short manga and illustrations were submitted from 42 countries and regions, and 79 short works and 137 illustrations are on display at the venue.
At the venue you can also see screenings of Silent Manga Motion Comics, trailers for the City Hunter the Movie, a booth commemorating the 35th anniversary of Fist of the North Star, and reproductions of original artwork by Hojo Tsukasa and Hara Tetsuo. Photography is permitted throughout the venue. Please keep them as a memento of your visit and enjoy.
If you're in the area, be sure to head to Tsuruya Department Store over the three-day weekend!Kumamoto International Manga Festival Website
